Thursday, June 9 Deb Tempel Healing and Touch Bleeding Woman Devotion Matthew 9:20-22 The Message 20-22 Just then a woman who had hemorrhaged for twelve years slipped in from behind and lightly touched his robe. She was thinking to herself, “If I can just put a finger on his robe, I’ll get well.” Jesus turned—caught her at it. Then he reassured her: “Courage, daughter. You took a risk of faith, and now you’re well.” The woman was well from then on.
A few things to share about the physical condition and cultural condition of the bleeding woman. She was poor because she had spent all her funds on medical treatment that did not work. Scripture does not address this, but she had to be tired from so much blood loss. She was considered unclean by Jewish law and anyone who touched her was considered unclean, she likely lived in isolation with little human contact. She was being disobedient to the laws by going into a crowd.
Have you ever felt financially broke, physically tired and all alone?
We all have an area of our life that is “bleeding” although sometimes we can’t identify it right away. It may be a broken relationship, it may be a physical ailment, addiction or just plain fatigue.
The woman experienced extreme conditions yet after hearing about Jesus and his healings she knew she needed to break the rules and get close to him.
Am I waiting for Jesus to seek me out, or am I willing to reach out and take the first step? What area of my life needs healing? Have I been able to utter this need to someone I trust or do I keep in to myself? Have I asked Jesus to heal me? What is keeping me from asking Jesus for this healing?
May we on this day be able to ask the One who came so that we may have life to the fullest to come into that area whether it be; physical, mental, spiritual, or relational to bring about a healing in us
