Recently, I have started donating some of the books in my library at home. During the process I came across a book my husband had given me as a gift year’s ago titled, ‘Meditations for Women Who Do Too Much’ by Anne Watson Schaef.
I smiled as I flipped through the crisp pages of daily meditations and thought, “Bless his heart, I knew what he was trying to tell me back then; take time for yourself.” Curious about what the ‘Meditation’ was for February 22nd, I quickly turned to the page and laughed aloud when I read the title, SOLITUDE!
It was quite clear what I needed to sacrifice for LENT.
The Bible is filled with scriptures about ‘solitude’: “He went out into a mountain to pray” (Mark); “he withdrew himself into the wilderness to be alone to pray and commune with God.” (Luke).
And in that ‘solitude’ the Lord says, “Be still, and know that I am God” …Psalm 46:10; “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you”. 1 Peter 5:7; “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27.
“Solitude is such a blessing!” Especially for someone like myself who lives and breathes music almost every waking hour and forgets to take time for ‘Solitude.’ A time to reflect, rethink, evaluate, rejuvenate, pray for guidance, and most importantly to strengthen my relationship with God one day at a time.
