1Thessalonians 1:9    People tell us about what sort of welcome we had from you & how you turned to God from idols.  As a result, you are serving the living & true God.    Common English Bible

Pastor Tari asked us to give a devotion on the theme of “metanoia” which means to turn around, think differently or repent. I chose to go with the first meaning “to turn around”. Using my Bible’s concordance I found the above verse which fits my little devotional thoughts.

Well, folks, I gotta tell you I started my “turning around” journey about 3 weeks earlier than Lent. Being in close proximity to a stranger’s serious health scare, I was vividly reminded of the need to take better care of my physical body. I knew I needed to do better for myself & to myself, treating my body as God would have me do, with respect & positivity.

While I’ve been doing regular walking at our indoor Field House track for the past 3 months, a great beginning of “turning around”, I’ve not been showing respect for myself when I over indulge in daily multiple treats.  I follow pretty healthy guidelines for eating healthy meals, but those in-between unhealthy snacks are not a positive choice for my body & it’s health.

I’ll not be giving up sugar or chocolate for Lent, (good heavens, no!), but I will be bringing my own snacks along as first choices when eating out in-between meals. I intend to eat my own healthier snacks, then if I’m still feeling hunger, I can sample something really yummy & special. I’m beginning to do the same at home, too.  Just these little changes will help my body be healthier inside, uplifting my soul & spirit, as I turn toward the lifestyle I know my loving God wants for me; turning away from giving undue attention to less healthy foods.
