Today I read the book of Esther. There are many things in this story that I dislike: the mass slaughter, the emphasis on riches, the greed, pride and lust for power of Haman, and the fact that Esther comes to the favor of the king based only on her beauty.
When Haman’s decree would lead to the slaughter of the Jews, Esther summoned the courage to approach the king although it was against the law. Her wit and intelligence enabled her to change the king’s mind, destroy Haman and his family and save her people.
I know God doesn’t interfere in our acts of free will. I do think he shows us that love triumphs over fear and that faith enables courage. Evil occurs throughout history to nations and individuals. I pray we may be guided by love, that we may do his will and that all his children may live in peace.
