Greg and I went on a 3-week vacation last month, and we had so much fun with family! Although our family has members that are really struggling right now with health issues, everyone was happy to be together and we all shared fun times we will always cherish. The first week was with family in Seattle and then Phoenix.  The last two weeks were spent in La Cruz, Mexico. That is what I’ll write about..

Greg’s sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Howard, have a condo steps from Banderas Bay, in La Cruz.  They’ve been snow-birds for eight years and live half the year there, and half the year in their family home in Anacortes, Washington.  We enjoyed staying with them, sailing together on their boat, swimming in the pool, shopping at the local Sunday market in the Marina, going to a crocodile reserve, eating out at local Mexican restaurants, and listening to music and dancing in a local establishment. We also enjoyed company- both at their home and at another home we were invited to, and just hanging out enjoying our time together.  My favorite time of day was early morning, when we would all have coffee on the balcony and watch the sun rise over the Sierra Madre mountains.  It was spectacular every single morning!

Another favorite daily past-time that we would do is to observe the road-building that was going on below us. Most of the roads in this area are dirt, or cobblestone, which is how it has been for centuries.   A group of men were changing the dusty dirt road into a cobblestone road!  It was fascinating to watch them.  First they would make a line of cobblestones down the road.. then a rectangle, and they would fill it in, on their knees, cobble by cobble, hour after hour, from morning till late afternoon.  After two weeks, the portion in front of us was complete, and they were all So happy!  They waved at us, and we waved back.  Of course, we had to drive over the road when it was finished, and Howard got his dune buggy out and we smiled and laughed as we enjoyed the bumpy ride on it as we went into the village.

“Come to Me, all you who labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”  Matthew 11, vs. 28-30

Lord,
Help us remember to be a light unto the world, as you are to us.  Amen
