Daniel 3:8-28
As I reflected on this passage, what struck me was not only the faith these three men demonstrated, but when God chose to intervene.  Did God step in when they were captured and bound?  No.  Did God step in when they were marched toward the furnace? No.  Did God step in and rescue them when the soldiers charged with taking them to the furnace were overcome and died from the blaze?  Not yet.  God waited until the full power of his protection could be demonstrated as the King watched on in awe as these three men of faith stood in the furnace with a fourth entity.
Does God promise to swoop in and prevent any harm coming to us? No.  Does God promise to protect us from anyone wanting to harm us? No.  But, does God promise to stand beside us? Absolutely.
As we walk with Jesus through his triumphant entry and into his last week, let us remember that though pain and suffering, heartache and grief may come to us, our Lord and Savior is willing to walk through and stand beside us through it all.
