“The Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my beloved son; with whom I am well pleased. ‘“ —Luke 3:22

The most defining year in our lives was 1972-73, when Larry was pastor in Brevig Mission.  We arrived mis-thinking we were there to change the Inupiat people of Brevig! Within a month we realized God sent us to be the ones transformed by the people of Brevig!  We did not realize the enormity of our transformation until we attended Larry’s home congregation in Iowa, where Larry’s mom pointedly told everyone, “They are not normal yet!”  She did not understand we had been transformed permanently and would never be the same.  We thank God for the gift of transforming our lives by the knowledge of His truth through our blessed Brevig Mission family!

We acquired a collection of Christ-sign ornaments made by Seward Peninsula Lutheran Women. They were patterned after “Chrismon” ornaments first developed in 1957 by the women of Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, Virginia.  The word “Chrismon “ translates to “Symbols of Christ”.
The Pastors spouse at Teller Lutheran developed the native version of “Chrismons”, but called “Christ-Signs” due to copyright laws. Making the “Christ-Signs” became a source of income for the women and their families. They were paid for each Christ-sign made, and in return expected to return a portion of their earnings from each Christ-sign, as an offering and a “Thank you to Jesus.”
Prayer: Transforming God, open our eyes, hearts and minds to your grace and power as you transform us into the image of Christ. Make us aware of the Devine moments when our lives are transformed by the knowledge of your truth. Amen.
