While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!" When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Get up and do not be afraid." And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.

Talking clouds and howling winds By Caleb Abbott age 11

One night when the wind was blowing really hard I lay in my bed somewhat afraid. I heard thuds and smashes outside my window and the noises scared me. I didn't want to run to my parents room because I felt like I was too old for that. Yet, I lay in my bed wondering what was happening outside and if the storm outside would end up inside. I kept envisioning trees crashing through the roof or branches smashing my bedroom window.

I prayed in my bed. I prayed for protection. I didn't want my family or me to get hurt by the storm so I prayed. It reminded me of when Jesus calmed the storm in the Bible. I didn't see Jesus like the disciples did, but I felt him. I felt his presence and I felt peace and I felt safe in my bed. The winds calmed down and I fell asleep.

I can't imagine what the disciples felt when they heard the mighty voice in the cloud surrounding them. Jesus saw their fear and told them to not be afraid! I imagine they felt a sense of peace with him there reminding them that he was there with them at their side. Their terror was so great that it took them to the ground. If I had been surrounded by a speaking cloud. It would have freaked me out too!

Jesus is with us wherever we go and wherever we are. We don't need to be afraid of speaking clouds or crazy winds. He wants us to feel safe and loved. I felt those feelings after praying to him. No matter what, Jesus is with us.
