In Elijah and the Raven Elijah prophecies a drought in Israel as a punishment for the peoples idolatry. God commands Elijah to hide, and have ravens bring him bread and meat. Elijah is isolated and his reliance on God prepares him for the future, and for his mission. This story is centered around Elijah’s reliance on God, and the trust he has to have to stay alive. Even when the brook he was drinking out of dried up, Elijah still placed his trust in God. This part of the story truly resonates with me.
Even when it feels like everything is going wrong, and you feel like you have no control, you can still rely on God. Drawing closer, and fostering a deeper connection with God is a main part of lent. Lent is a time to strengthen our faith, even in times of hardship, like the brook drying up. Elijah’s dependance on God shows how it is important to keep your trust in God, even if you are uncertain. God helps us, and placing our trust in him gives us a path through difficult times in our life.
